We are living in difficult and challenging times. The “new normal,” i.e., turmoil, intolerance, and trauma, have become an inescapable way of life. Consequently, never before has our work as clinicians and human service professionals been so vital to the well being of so many and our society as whole. We, and those we serve, stand in the midst of disruptively turbulent times where tolerance, togetherness, and empathy are at an all-time low; while death on the one hand, and bigotry, hatred, and division on the other, have skyrocketed to unprecedented and all-time highs. The work we do is in desperate need of new and fresh ideas to help transform the human condition.
As we become poised to tackle the complex tasks of working with the ever-widening range of trauma that inundates our work, it is imperative that we are at least trauma informed as well as willing to clarify who, what, and how it is we want to be in the lives of those we serve. This workshop will explore the inherent complexities involved in working within a context of societal trauma, a global pandemic, and turmoil as well as highlight the implications these realities have for each of us, and the work we do.
